11. Typography rules and editorial context
Typography analyzes enabled rules from the scoped snapshot. It is not a grammar service, spellchecker or fact checker. The current rule registry contains 26 rule IDs, rather than the Avellio 1.1 reporting vocabulary.
| Family | Examples in this build |
|---|---|
| Basic spacing and repetition | Repeated spaces, repeated words, trailing spaces, spaces before punctuation |
| Quotes and punctuation | Straight/smart quotes, three-dot ellipsis, punctuation spacing, inverted punctuation, repeated punctuation, dash usage |
| Language and semantic conventions | Number–unit spacing, one-letter word breaks, prepositions, dates, number formats, currency, abbreviations, capitalization |
| Composition and structure | Hyphen ladders, soft returns, empty paragraphs, manual indents, repeated tabs, explicit layout breaks, Japanese/Korean line boundaries |
Rule availability does not imply equal confidence in every language or structure. Review the context and active locale. Three dots may be literal code; a manual break may be a deliberate title; a repeated word may be editorially valid. Work on the text deliberately in InDesign when the inspector offers no supported correction. The 1.1 Safe Clean menu and its report families must not be assumed to exist unchanged in this UXP workflow.
Read the new Typography recommendation
The findings row shows compact advice; select the finding for the full explanation. Suggested replacement contains Found and Suggested samples. Review in context provides a next step without guessing replacement text. Neither card applies or copies a correction.
Read Text locale as the language/region used for analysis, independently of the interface language. und means language-neutral. Locale date order explains a convention; Observed dominant pattern records usage in comparable text, not a mandatory editorial standard.
The sample legend is ␠ ordinary space, ⍽ nonbreaking space (ordinary or narrow), ⇥ tab and ↵ break. These symbols visualize existing text; do not type them into production copy. An exact sample can be shorter than the surrounding sentence; read the document context too.
Concrete proposals are limited to runs of ordinary spaces, exactly three periods, and supported unambiguous calendar-valid dates with a four-digit year. For example, an en-US date-order finding may propose 23/10/2026 → 10/23/2026, retaining the separator. 03/04/2026 is ambiguous and receives advice without a guessed replacement. This does not verify that the date is factually correct. Quotes, units, numbers, names and other rules receive specific contextual guidance.
After document or policy changes, Rescan to refresh this recommendation replaces outdated advice. A missing proposal is a valid outcome. Review the meaning, locate the occurrence, edit manually when justified, then inspect again. Marking a finding as addressed does not edit it.
Remember the rule colour
The coloured dot beside a rule uses the same RGB value as the current plugin's Typography indicators. Colour identifies a rule; urgency is stated separately. Some rules share a colour. Always read the name. The atlas expands each row into a concrete example, a possible editorial outcome, an intentional exception and a verification step. Its examples do not promise an automatic text correction.
Style Map identity colours, frequency scales, override categories and White Space river severity have separate meanings. Use their own explanations rather than treating every colour as the same legend.
