16. Profiles, settings and team standards
The six built-in inspection profiles are Editorial QA, Book / long-form, Magazine, Annual report, Newspaper and Narrow columns. They combine module selection, scope defaults, typography rules and composition constraints. Custom/local/imported profiles add versioned team policy and approved category exceptions.
Choose a suitable starting profile, inspect the settings, and test a representative small scope. A narrow-column profile can reduce over-reporting where the measure is inherently constrained. Book and annual-report presets use more conservative composition limits. A preset is a starting policy, not an acceptance certificate.
Profile actions distinguish saved values from an unsaved form draft. Save validates and activates the saved profile without scanning. Export copies the saved profile, not unsaved edits. Rescan with active settings applies the chosen settings and immediately inspects an active document; without a document they apply to the next scan.
Export/import uses validated clipboard packages. Built-ins must be duplicated before local changes. On an ID/version conflict, explicitly choose to keep the existing profile, import as a copy, or replace it. Local rollback restores retained profile revisions, not InDesign document text. Export supported profiles before changing installations.
