17. Publication and InDesign Book workflow
Publication collects completed document results into a content-minimized aggregate. Its export retains the publication label and document names for drill-down, although source text, geometry, paths and raw style/master names are omitted. Treat those names as potentially confidential and review the report before sharing. Starting a session does not open, save, scan or close documents. Give the session a useful local name and, optionally, an expected document count. If using structural signatures, opt in before the relevant complete scans.
Inspect already open documents
- Open the intended documents yourself and choose Publication.
- Use Refresh open documents and explicitly select the queue.
- Confirm compatible profile/rule settings. Publication's queue deliberately uses All Pages + White Space + Styles + Typography, independently of your next single-document scope/module choices.
- Choose Run queued scans. The queue activates documents serially and captures completed summaries.
- Review each terminal status and restoration status. Retry only the failed/cancelled items you select.
The queue attempts to restore the document active when it began. An error or restoration failure must remain visible and be resolved manually. Do not interpret a queue with failed documents as complete publication coverage.
Use an active InDesign Book
Choose Read active Book, inspect chapter status, then Queue open chapters. Only exact chapters already open in InDesign enter the manual queue. Closed, missing, locked, out-of-date or unknown chapters remain untouched. Select all open can include documents outside that Book; use it only intentionally.
Add, complete and export
For a manual workflow, add the current fresh completed inspection with Add current results. The session checks compatible configuration, enabled modules and complete scope. Pause/resume preserves retained summaries. Complete freezes the current collection; an ongoing collection exports a clearly labelled draft. Completing a session is not a guarantee that every expected chapter was inspected. Verify expected coverage and warnings before sharing its report.
