25. Profile library: save, transfer, upgrade and restore

Open Settings → Manage profile library. Profile selection first previews the stored values. The active badge, selected library revision and an unsaved draft are separate states. If the form says Draft — not applied, the visible edits have not yet replaced active inspection settings.

Create a named local standard

  1. Choose a built-in starting point; use Duplicate before editing/versioning a built-in.
  2. Set a non-confidential name, semantic version such as 1.0.0, and a short usage description.
  3. Review thresholds, modules, default scope, typography rules, policy and approved exceptions.
  4. Choose Save & activate profile to validate and save it for the next inspection without automatically starting Scan.
  5. To inspect now, choose the explicit Apply/rescan action and verify the completed run's provenance.

In Settings the main action can read Apply changes and rescan, Apply N changes and rescan, or Rescan with active settings, depending on draft state. Discard draft restores active field values; it does not delete the saved profile library or roll back InDesign text. Navigating away and back can retain draft inputs, so check the status instead of assuming that reopening a page saved or discarded them.

Transfer a standard

Export copies the saved profile JSON to the clipboard. Unsaved form edits are not included. Import validates one compatible package from the clipboard; unsupported/unsafe data is rejected rather than trusted as plugin instructions. Profile packages omit document copy, native identity, path and geometry, but names/descriptions are human-entered text: do not type confidential copy into them.

For an ID/version conflict, Keep existing discards that pending replacement, Import as copy retains both as separate local standards, and Replace existing explicitly replaces the stored revision and retains rollback evidence. Replacing a library revision and applying its settings to the active inspection are separate decisions. Confirm the active version after replacement and inspect again when appropriate.

Version and restore

Upgrade patch creates the next patch revision and retains the current local revision as a rollback snapshot. Delete requires confirmation and removes the local library entry, not source document text. Rollback restores a retained previous revision or the most recently deleted profile where available; recovery history is bounded, not a complete archival backup.

Export important standards before moving computers or updating the plugin. Profile rollback does not undo a document correction. For activation help, see Chapter 3. When assembling a Publication report, use one intended team-standard revision/policy and read MIXED_TEAM_STANDARD warnings instead of assuming equal profile names guarantee equivalent scans.
