9. Styles and the Style catalog
Open Styles → Style catalog to inspect paragraph and character style definitions and available usage evidence. Browsing the catalog does not run the complete inspection or apply a style to document text. A catalog's live information and a completed inspection are different views; check their scope and freshness before comparing counts.
Opening the catalog and activating a style row are different actions: activating a Paragraph or Character style row explicitly selects it and shows its supported uses with diagnostic marks. To select a set for a later Show selected operation, use the row checkboxes. Showing a style does not assign that style to source text. Chapter 23 describes the full catalog, Override Map and colour workflow.
Style findings can describe local overrides, extreme values, structural differences or review-only evidence. An override may be intentional. Read the affected property and the source of the evidence before deciding to reset anything.
Style Map and frequency heatmap
Style Map gives styles stable identity colours. Style Frequency Heatmap uses relative usage intensity; its heat colour is not a permanent replacement for the style's identity colour. Choose the relevant paragraph/character styles and supported map scope, then explicitly show the visualization. A capped or unavailable character-style range count is not proof that a style is unused.
Issue marks and Style Map share the existing Avellio marking layer. Showing issues replaces a Style Map, and showing the map replaces issue marks. Clear issue marks does not clear an active Style Map; use its own Clear Style Map action. Editing the palette changes the diagnostic presentation, not the document's style definitions.
