Prepare a representative pass

Preserve regional differences while making the review consistent across several languages. Use a saved working copy, identify the intended active document, and check the inspection scope before interpreting a result. A profile is an inspection brief, not a command to repair the document.

Follow the workflow

  1. Identify the language sections and publication conventions. Correct paragraph-language attributes on neutral working examples first.
  2. Inspect representative paragraphs under automatic resolution. Check the resolved evidence separately from the five interface-language choices.
  3. Use language guides to compare supported quote, spacing, date and number conventions. Do not apply one country’s pattern to all text sharing a language family.
  4. Review uncertain quotations, abbreviations and numeric meanings with a competent language editor. A registered locale is not a grammar or spelling service.
  5. Use the intended team profile consistently. Make authorized changes through the profile workflow and obtain fresh results.
  6. Review the complete intended scope and document any human-only decisions or omitted structures before handoff.

Read Typography advice before editing

Select a finding and read Found, Suggested when offered, and Text locale. Review in context gives guidance without a guessed replacement. Advice itself edits no text. Verify meaning, make a deliberate edit in InDesign if justified, then inspect again. Read the full recommendation workflow →

How to recognize a finished pass

  • Language boundaries and regional conventions are explicit.
  • Original dates, amounts and quotations retain their meaning.
  • Exceptions can be explained to the next reviewer.

Where judgement matters

  • A page’s documentation language does not determine the document’s locale.
  • A common currency symbol can refer to different currencies.
Does a finding mean I must change the document?

No. Check intent, scope, current evidence and available actions. Retaining an intentional occurrence can be the correct decision. Record the supported review status when useful; it does not edit the source text.
