Short last lines
Judge the visual ending of the paragraph rather than a universal word-count rule.
Understand the principle
A short final line concerns the ending’s visual width relative to the surrounding composed text. Current profile sensitivity, paragraph length and column context matter. It is distinct from a frame-boundary widow/orphan and belongs to White Space/Copyfit.
Look in White Space. The publication concept and a plugin issue identifier are related, but are not interchangeable.
Compare the intent, not only the characters
A full body paragraph ends with a tiny isolated fragment.
An ending with an intentional visual relationship to the paragraph.
Schematic teaching example, not a plugin screenshot or a promise of automatic correction.
Review it in Avellio 2.0
Inspect the actual paragraph and local measure. Compare the same profile and scope; review the documented short-ending threshold and any eligibility limits. Explore an offered compatible alternative or make a deliberate editorial/layout decision.
This is composed-layout or style evidence, outside the 26 Typography rule IDs. Read its area-specific inspector and colour meaning.
Use the selected finding’s actual evidence and offered actions. If no suitable supported action exists, make a justified manual decision in InDesign or retain the occurrence. After an edit, inspect again and check nearby composition.
When the difference can be intentional
Short headings, captions and narrow measures can legitimately end briefly. A smaller counter is not sufficient if the edited paragraph reads or flows worse.
What should I verify after deciding?
Preserve meaning and the intended design. If you edited the document, obtain fresh results for the intended scope and policy. If you kept the occurrence, record a supported review decision when useful. A smaller filtered count is not proof of a repair.
Use it in a real workflow
Resolve awkward line endings
Distinguish an isolated boundary line from a visually weak last line, then assess the whole reflow.
