- Goal
- A measured local improvement that still reads naturally.

Prepare a representative pass
Use layout evidence to investigate uneven spacing, without optimizing a score at the expense of the page. Use a saved working copy, identify the intended active document, and check the inspection scope before interpreting a result. A profile is an inspection brief, not a command to repair the document.
Follow the workflow
- Inspect a representative scope with the intended White Space profile. Verify that the relevant module was included and evidence is current.
- Select a river or texture finding and locate its actual lines. Distinguish a stable whitespace corridor from deliberate display typography or a constrained narrow measure.
- Review composition details and the target’s evidence. Compare equivalent scopes and settings; unavailable metrics are not zeros.
- Explore only a supported compatible target. Wait while the solver evaluates and restores temporary candidates.
- Read Before/After deltas and the refusal or acceptance reason. For rivers, look for target river improvement rather than relying only on a global score.
- Apply a justified eligible candidate or retain the layout. Inspect again and compare nearby paragraphs, columns and line endings.
How to recognize a finished pass
- The actual target improves in its relevant measure.
- Tracking, fit and surrounding reflow remain acceptable.
- The page still meets its design intention.
Where judgement matters
- Texture variations can be intentional.
- A safe alternative is not an aesthetic guarantee.
- No candidate is a valid outcome; do not force an unsupported correction.
Does a finding mean I must change the document?
No. Check intent, scope, current evidence and available actions. Retaining an intentional occurrence can be the correct decision. Record the supported review status when useful; it does not edit the source text.
