Rivers of white space
Check a supported corridor of whitespace across composed lines.
Understand the principle
A river is a visual geometry relationship, not a text-search pattern. The current inspector evaluates supported whitespace corridors and relevant evidence; a coincidental alignment is not automatically a production defect. River colours can express severity and do not use the Typography rule-colour legend.
Look in White Space. The publication concept and a plugin issue identifier are related, but are not interchangeable.
Compare the intent, not only the characters
Gaps align through several lines of justified copy.
A less distracting corridor, with acceptable nearby composition.
Schematic teaching example, not a plugin screenshot or a promise of automatic correction.
Review it in Avellio 2.0
Show the selected river evidence and review its actual lines. For a compatible solver candidate, compare the target river count or burden and surrounding effects. Do not rely only on an improved global score.
This is composed-layout or style evidence, outside the 26 Typography rule IDs. Read its area-specific inspector and colour meaning.
Use the selected finding’s actual evidence and offered actions. If no suitable supported action exists, make a justified manual decision in InDesign or retain the occurrence. After an edit, inspect again and check nearby composition.
When the difference can be intentional
Short measures, tables, display typography and intentional composition can limit what should be changed. No safe alternative is an acceptable result.
What should I verify after deciding?
Preserve meaning and the intended design. If you edited the document, obtain fresh results for the intended scope and policy. If you kept the occurrence, record a supported review decision when useful. A smaller filtered count is not proof of a repair.
Use it in a real workflow
Combine Preflight, GREP and Avellio
Give each tool a clear job: technical output checks, exact text searches and contextual composition evidence.
Follow the workflow →Improve rivers and text texture
Use layout evidence to investigate uneven spacing, without optimizing a score at the expense of the page.
