2. Prepare a safe working copy

CAUTION Typical time: 1–2 minutes. Document impact: creates only the backup you choose to save. Success looks like: you can return to the original document if any later correction is unwanted.

Before the first analysis:

1. Save the InDesign document.
2. Create a duplicate or a new version.
3. Confirm that the intended fonts and links are available.
4. Decide whether you are checking the entire document or only a specific scope.

Do not begin with Reset Text to Style. That command clears local formatting overrides across the document. It is not the normal way to remove Avellio diagnostics.

Choose a scope carefully#

For the first run, use All Pages (Def.) on a small document or Current Spread on a large document.

Available scopes are:

• All Pages (Def.)
• Selection
• Current Spread
• Page Range such as 1-5, 8, 12

Enable Include entire threaded stories only when you want a frame-based scope to include all linked text.

Caution — An empty narrow scope can fall back to All Pages. Make sure Selection contains eligible text, Current Spread contains text frames, and Page Range is valid before you run Avellio.

Success looks like: the working copy is saved and the chosen scope visibly contains the text you intend to inspect.
