English-language locale reference

Nordic Typography Profiles

Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, and Finnish are separate conservative Avellio profiles collected here for comparison without pretending they share one language standard.

Publication locale, not translation

This page is written in English. The locale codes describe the text being typeset and the convention Avellio applies; they do not indicate the language of this web page.

At a glance

Quotation marks

Swedish uses a right-double quote model in Avellio; DA, NO, and FI quote enforcement is conservative.

Punctuation spacing

Follow the selected language and publication style; this hub does not impose one Nordic punctuation system.

Non-breaking spaces

Space grouping and protected semantic pairs are common profile features.

Dates

SE favors ISO; DA, NO, and FI accept regional slash/dot/ISO patterns conservatively.

Numbers

Space grouping and decimal comma are expected.

Currency

SEK/kr, DKK/kr/kr., NOK/kr, and EUR/€ are recognized per profile.

Units

Recognized units use protected spacing.

Regional variants

Select the exact profile rather than treating Nordic as a selectable locale.

SEDANOFI

House-style caveat

This comparison page is English-language documentation about four locales, not a unified Nordic rulebook.

How to use this with Avellio

  1. Assign accurate InDesign paragraph languages before relying on AUTO.
  2. Use an explicit profile when one regional convention governs the complete scope.
  3. Run a new Typography Audit after changing locale.
  4. Read locale source, specificity, confidence, and context together.
  5. Correct ambiguous dates, numbers, currencies, and complete quote pairs manually.
